Course Duration: 12 Weeks, 1 Day Per Week. Week 1-5 Principles in Tackling Substance Misuse. Week 6-10 Assessment Planning and Care. Week 11 & 12 Optional Module

Aim of the Course: Provides a professional qualification in Drugs and Alcohol for those whose work requires a considerable level of knowledge and competence in addressing substance misuse issues.

 

Course Learning Outcomes: 

  • Understand the principles of tackling substance misuse.
  • Be able to carry out assessments of those misusing substances, to identify and prioritise their needs.
  • Be able to work with the client to develop a care plan for them.
  • Be able to help individuals address their substance use through their care plan.
  • Know how to provide ongoing support individuals who are substance users.
  • Be able to assess any immediate risk of danger to individuals who have used alcohol or other substances, and address these risks.
  • Understand how to help transfer individuals between agencies and services.
  • Support those affected by someone else’s use of alcohol or other substances to access appropriate services.
  • Know how to use recognised theoretical models to provide therapeutic support to individuals who misuse substances.
  • Have an increased awareness about substances, their use and effects.
