Foundation Module- Adults and Family members

Aims Of The Course

This course will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to support adults and other family members who are affected by someone else’s substance misuse/addiction.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the reasons why people may use substances 
  • Describe how addiction and dependence can develop 
  • Explain the potential impacts of addiction on the individual and the family 
  • Describe the theories surrounding the development of addiction 
  • Differentiate between the Disease, Choice, and Trauma/Attachment Models of addiction 
  • Explain the difference between dependence and addiction 
  • Identify elements that should be considered when choosing substance misuse interventions 
  • Identify common treatment approaches/modalities 
  • Describe the Stepped Care Model used in Northern Ireland

How this course will be delivered: This 9-hour interactive course will be delivered VIA ZOOM to a small group of up to 15 learners.
