Aims Of The Course

This informational/interactive session will enhance learners’ knowledge around the impact that parental substance misuse can have on children and young people (“hidden harm”), including potential signs of hidden harm and how to provide support to affected children and families.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Identify how substance misuse impacts the individual, their children, and family
  • Understand what hidden harm is and the impact it has locally
  • Understand the concept of resilience and be aware of risk and protective factors
  • Identify signs to look out for and when to seek help
  • Understand strategies and messages to reduce harm
  • Identify local services available

Course Eligibility / Relevance

This course is available free to any professionals working in the statutory or voluntary sector in Northern Ireland that encounters substance misuse in families. This course is relevant to professionals that encounter clients affected by substance misuse and where there are children or young people in the family.

How this course will be delivered: This 3-hour interactive course will be delivered VIA ZOOM to a small group of up to 15 learners.
