Understanding Alcohol

Aims Of The Course

This course will provide a more in-depth understanding of alcohol, its effects, and how alcohol affects users and other around them. It will provide information on relevant guidance for addressing alcohol misuse, and how to signpost clients to supports. Participants should already have a basic knowledge of drugs and alcohol before completing this course.  

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the prevalence of alcohol use in Northern Ireland 
  • Understand the legal framework for alcohol 
  • Understand alcohol units Identify levels of harm associated with alcohol misuse (for the user) 
  • Understand evidence and guidance regarding alcohol use 
  • Understand methods used in assisting with alcohol-related behaviour change 
  • Identify relevant local services

Course Eligibility / Relevance

This course is available free to anyone working in the statutory or voluntary sector in Northern Ireland. Suitable for people that have a basic awareness of effects of substances and want to get a more in depth understanding of Alcohol misuse

How this course will be delivered: This 3-hour interactive course will be delivered VIA ZOOM to a small group of up to 15 learners.
