Aims Of The Course
Aim of the Course: This informational/interactive session will enhance learners’ knowledge around the use and misuse of prescribed and over-the-counter medications, the risks and harms associated with the misuse of these drugs, and strategies for supporting clients affected by this issue.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Understand the prevalence of prescription (Rx) and over-thecounter (OTC) medicine misuse in Northern Ireland
- Identify medicines most commonly misused, how they’re misused, their indications of use, and their effects
- Understand how Rx and OTC medicine misuse can lead to dependence
- Understand risks and harms for the user associated with the misuse
- Identify key harm reduction strategies
- Identify local substance misuse services
Course Eligibility / Relevance
This course is available free to anyone working in the statutory or voluntary sector in Northern Ireland. Suitable for people that have a basic awareness of effects of substances and want to get a more in depth understanding of prescription and over the counter medicines misuse
How this course will be delivered: This 3-hour interactive course will be delivered VIA ZOOM to a small group of up to 15 learners.
