Understanding Vaping and Spice
Aims Of The Course
Aim of the Course: Participants will have a greater understanding of vaping as a route of administration for nicotine and illicit drugs, with a particular focus on the use of “spice”.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain what vaping is
- Describe the types of substances that can be vaped
- Explain the “pros and cons” (from the individual’s perspective) of vaping illicit substances
- Describe Synthetic Cannabinoid Receptor Agonists (“Spice”), including effects and risks
- Identify harm reduction strategies for people vaping and/or using spice
- Identify sources of support (signposting)
Course Eligibility / Relevance
Course Relevance: This course is relevant to anyone working with people who may use drugs and/or alcohol, including those who vape/use e-cigarettes. This course focuses on vaping as a route of administration for illicit drugs, and mentions (but does not focus on) the use of nicotine vapes.
Course Eligibility: Participants should have a basic knowledge around substance use prior to attending this course.
How this course will be delivered: This 3-hour interactive course will be delivered VIA ZOOM to a small group of up to 15 learners.
