This course runs over two days: 21 April, 10 am – 4 pm and 29 April, 10 am – 1 pm. You need to attend both dates for successful completion of the course.

Aim of the Course:

 

This course will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to support children, young people, and other family members who are affected by someone else’s substance misuse/addiction.  

 

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • The parent-child relationship and children’s attachment behaviour 
  • The impact of parental/adult substance misuse on child development and the extended family

  • Identifying problematic substance misuse in young people 
  • Engaging and supporting children and young people affected by substance misuse 
  • Interventions used to treat young people and families 
  • Role of universal and specialist services for young people and families 
  • How to identify when a young person needs specialist care 
  • Tools to engage family members affected by substance misuse and family-based approaches 
  • Safeguarding children and young people
